Beijing, May 15, IRNA-Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said in Beijing on Monday Iran seeks to become a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
Since Iran already has observer status and wants to become a full member, the country's membership should be discussed, Liu was quoted as saying by China Daily.
Foreign ministers of the six-member Shanghai Co-operation Organization (SCO), an inter-governmental group, will meet in Shanghai Monday (today) to prepare for the SCO summit to be held in mid-June.
The foreign ministers of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are expected to sign several agreements in their annual gathering to set the final agenda for the summit.
Liu told reporters earlier that the ministers would exchange views on deepening SCO cooperation and debate other international and regional issues of common concern.
