Strange things in Tehran
By Syma Sayyah, Tehran

Tehran is swinging between intense warm days and nice cool early mornings and evenings. Well it is spring and this is Tehran and you are always ready for a surprise.

Recently I had noticed some most strange grey metal fixtures being installed in the streets near our house. Two days ago I realized what they were to be used for. They were the bases for the new big black rubbish wheelybins which have suddenly appeared all over. We have four in our street, one at the top, one in the middle and two further down. Aren't we lucky! No more piles of plastic bags full of trash at various points in the road, which might stop any stray cats from getting free meals. I have a picture for you to see.

By the way, Tehran traffic seems to be slightly (and I mean slightly) better since a rule was introduced in January allowing only cars with even number plates to travel on alternate days to cars with odd number plates in a large area of the city.
