Brussels, Nov 12, IRNA-A professor from Iran, Dr. Ali-Asghar Seyed-Gohrab who has been teaching Persian literature and culture at the prestigious Leiden university for the last ten years has been appointed as a member of the Young Academy of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Each year, ten excellent researchers and scholars are promoted to the Academy.
"This year I was fortunate to be selected. It is very prestigious for me. The position gives some extra privileges," Dr. Seyed-Gohrab told IRNA in a telephone interview from Leiden Sunday .
A statement by the Academy noted that Asghar Seyed-Gohrab "not only has impressive academic work in the field of Persian literature to his credit, he has tried to cultivate interest in all aspects of Iranian and Persian-speaking cultures."
His primary field is Persian poetry, which he also translates.
Seyed-Gohrab has recently completed a study of the relationship between riddles in lyric poems and metaphors.
The Young Academy of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) consists of researchers who have proven their scientific quality, and who obtained their doctorates less then ten years previously.
New members are selected for academic excellence, an interdisciplinary approach and their broad interest in sciences and humanities.
