TEHRAN, Nov. 18 (Mehr News Agency) – Foreign Ministry spokesman
Mohammad-Ali Hosseini has condemned the Tuesday attack by UCLA university police
on an Iranian student in the United States.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, he said that the
physical attack has “hurt the feelings of the Iranian nation”.
The United States has a long history of racism as well as
violating the rights of its religious minorities and immigrants, he pointed
out.
“The U.S. police’s increasingly discriminatory attitude toward
immigrants is an explicit violation of human rights.”
He underlined the necessity of punishing the culprits and
providing satisfaction to the student.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran is seriously pursuing the case
and will spare no effort in defending the dignity and rights of its nationals,”
he stressed.
A UCLA student of Iranian descent, Mostafa Tabatabainejad, 23,
was Tasered by the campus police after refusing to show his ID
card.
He is planning a federal civil rights
lawsuit.
