TEHRAN, Nov. 18 (Mehr News Agency) - Iran will dispatch two weightlifters, Hossein Rezazadeh and Asghar Ebrahimi, to the Qatar capital Doha, where the 15th Asian Games are held, said the federation caretaker head here Saturday.
"We would like to send more lifters to Doha, but the rules and regulations of the 2006 Games deny us," added Bahram Afsharzadeh.
The official is scheduled to leave for Budapest on Nov. 20 to hold a meeting with Tamas Ajan, the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) president, in a bid to reduce the fine the world body levied on Iran.
Nine of the 11-strong Iran underwent doping tests by the IWF on Sept. 24 and reported to test positive for blood-enhancing drugs.
The world organization heavily fined the Iranian federation and banned the nine lifters.
Iran's federation got fined $400,000 and the weightlifters were banned for two years each.
National lifter Mohsen Davudi, who tested positive in the past as well as last month, was banned from international games permanently.
Ajan personally invited the three-time (now four-time) world and twice Olympic +105kg gold medalist Rezazadeh to attend the 75th World Weightlifting Championships held in Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic, in late September.
The IWF also imposed a lifetime ban on Iran's Bulgarian trainer Georgi Ivanov.
If the federation refuses to pay the fine, it will be banned for two years, as well.
