TEHRAN, Nov. 20 (Mehr News Agency) - The winners of the Sixth Biennial of Persian Painting were announced during a ceremony at the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art on Sunday evening.
"There has been an important breakthrough in the quality of the paintings exhibited in the event in comparison with the works of the previous biennial," selection board member Majid Mehregan said before the award ceremony.
Another member of the selection board, Mohammad-Baqer Aqamiri, described this year's biennial as very lively due to the extraordinary participation of young artists.
After several other short speeches, the winners in the categories of Persian painting, taz'hib (illumination), tash'ir (a unique style of Persian painting featuring animal and botanical motifs created with a thin fountain pen and with gold-colored ornamentation on the boarders of its text), and gol-o-morgh (a unique style of Persian painting featuring bird and floral motifs in different colors) were announced.
Following is the list of winners:
* Ruhollah Jahanbin won the top prize in the Persian Painting Section and Amir-Hossein Aqamiri and Mina Sadri received the second and third place awards. Amir Tahmasbi and Celina Puria were each awarded a diploma of honor in this category.
* The top winner of the Gol-o-Morgh Section was Mehrzaman Fakhar-Monfared, while Hossein-Ali Machani and Mehrnaz Khorrami received the second and third prizes. In addition, Elaheh Zare' won the Special Jury Prize and Reza Fattahi was awarded a diploma of honor.
* The biennial jury awarded Hossein Tonekaboni first prize in the Taz'hib Section, and Soleiman Saeidabadi and Leila Abbasi won the second and third prizes. Bahram Mehrian Kordestani and Mehrdad Rastin shared the Special Jury Prize.
* Nushin Nazaripushan was awarded a diploma of honor in the Tash'ir Section, but the jury awarded no first, second, or third prize in this section.
The Sixth Biennial of Persian Painting was held at the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art from October 30 to November 19.
