Tehran, Nov 25, IRNA-State-owned television station `Iraqia' on Saturday quoted Iraqi President Jalal Talabani as saying his scheduled visit to Iran has been postponed due to the closure of Baghdad's international airport.
President Talabani was due to arrive in Tehran Saturday for an official visit upon an invitation of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. He was to head a delegation in the visit.
The Iraqi president had earlier been scheduled to visit Iran on November 8 but the visit was postponed due to a conflict in his schedule. He was in France for a week-long visit.
Talabani, the first democratically elected president since the fall of Saddam Hossein, has visited Iran twice since the establishment of the new government in his country.
As head of the Iraqi transitional government, Talabani paid a second visit to Iran on November 21, 2005 at the head of a politico-economic delegation.
Iran and Iraq have expanded bilateral ties and cooperation in various fields in recent years.
The two countries signed a memorandum of understanding on promotion of political and economic ties and reconstruction of warn-torn Iraq during a visit by Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki to Tehran in September.
