Iranian athletes shine at FESPIC, grab volleyball, basketball, table tennis titles

Invincible Iran wins FESPIC sitting volleyball gold

Kuala Lumpur, Nov 30, IRNA-Iran extended its winning streak with a 3-0 victory over China in the final of sitting volleyball tournament of the 9th Far East and South Pacific Games for the Disabled (FESPIC) in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.

The formidable Iranian team, which had not conceded one set during the tourney, thrashed China 28-18, 25-16, 25-20.

Iran had already handed Japan, South Korea, Myanmar, and Kazakhstan straight sets defeat.

Japan bagged bronze as it edged past South Korea 3-1, qualifying for the 2008 Paralympic Games in the Chinese capital Beijing.

Iran lifts FESPIC basketball title

Iran celebrated the wheelchair basketball title at the 9th Far East and South Pacific Games for the Disabled (FESPIC) here Thursday.

The Iranian side grabbed the glittering gold after stunning Australia 77-59.

South Korea stood third.

Debutant Iran snatches FESPIC women's goalball silver

Debutant Iran finished runner-up at women's goalball event of the 9th Far East and South Pacific Games for the Disabled (FESPIC) here Thursday.

The silver came after the team conceded an 8-2 loss to powerful China in the final.

Japan finished third, bagging bronze.

Iran takes table tennis title

Iran was crowned at the men's table tennis tournament of the 9th Far East and South Pacific Games for the Disabled (FESPIC) here Thursday.

The duo Aqil Alimardani and Hassan Janfeshani represented the country.

Kuwait snatched the silver medal and the bronze went to Kuwait.

Iran takes men's goalball silver in hard-fought final

Iran conceded a narrow 10-9 loss to China in the men's goalball final of the 9th Far East and South Pacific Games for the Disabled (FESPIC) here Thursday.

The Iranian side, which had been thrashed by China 11-1 in their opening game, fought to a 9-9 draw in normal time.

China grabbed the coveted gold as it scored the winner in the extra-time.

Twelve teams competed in the tournament.

Iran also finished runner-up at the women's goalball event.

The silver came after the team lost to powerful China 8-2 in the final.

Japan finished third, bagging bronze.

Iran disabled lifter shatters world record

Iranian weightlifter Kazem Rajabi snatched the +105 kg gold after improving his own and world record at the 9th Far East and South Pacific Games for the Disabled (FESPIC) here Thursday.

Rajabi broke the record by 0.5 kg as he hoisted 255.5 kg.

The silver went to a Taiwanese lifter, who kept 220 kg above his head.

Thailand's representative won the bronze with a 215 kg mark.

In 100 kg category, Amrollah Dehqan from Iran took the bronze medal by handling 220 kg.

Iraqi and Chinese weightlifters bagged the gold and silver respectively.

Iranian swimmers scoop up FESPIC medals

Iran's swimming team garnered five silvers and four bronzes at the 9th Far East and South Pacific Games for the Disabled (FESPIC) here Wednesday.

Gholam-Hossein Sahebkar stood second at the SB6 100m and his teammate Vahid Keshtkar took the silver medal in the S12 100m butterfly meet.

Mohammad-Reza Rahbari bagged two silver medals at the 100m butterfly and S5 50m backstroke.

The fifth silver came as the Iranian side finished runner-up at the P49 relay event.

Keshtkar won three bronzes at the S12 100m, S12 100m butterfly, and S12 50m butterfly and Rahbari added another, finishing third at the SB6 50m.

Keshtkar had already taken the S12 100m freestyle and S12 50m freestyle bronze medals.

Sahebkar had also grabbed the SB6 100m freestyle silver.
