TEHRAN, Oct. 1 (Mehr News Agency) -- Iranian director Kambuzia Partovi said that it is hard to predict how a film will do at the Oscars due to the variety of contenders. Iran has selected Partovi's "Border Café" to represent Iranian cinema in the category of Best Foreign Language Film at the 79th Annual Academy Awards in 2007.
"It is an appropriate opportunity to screen the film in the United States, and I think the screenings would be effective for the Oscars," he told the Persian service of ISNA on Saturday.
The French-Iran joint production is about Reihan, an Iranian widow and mother of two young children who reopens the roadhouse formerly run by her husband, but since managing such a business is forbidden for women, she encounters much resistance, particularly from her conservative brother-in-law, Nasser, whose only aim is to marry Reihan, despite the fact he already has one wife.
It is unclear if the fact that it is a joint production with a foreign country will influence the Academy Award judges, Partovi stated.
He went on to say that he would be travel to the United States to promote his film during the screenings.
Fereshteh Sadr-Orafaii, Parviz Parastuii, Nicolas Papadopolos, Esobeta Mikhailishina, and Esmaeil Soltanian star in the film.
