Shirin Ebadi set to
open FFS 2006
Nobel peace prize winner Shirin Ebadi (Iran) and
Trond Giske (minister for culture) are going to launch the 16th Films From the
South festival in Vika Kino thursday October the 5th.
Ebadi was given the
Nobel Peace Prize in 2003 in recognition of her work for democracy and human
rights. She is one of the founders of the Center for Defence of Human Rights
which was recently decleared illegal by Irainian authorities. The Ministry of
Forreign Affairs, the Nobel Peace Center and Films from the South have worked
together to bring Shirin Ebadi to Norway.
She is here on an official visit October
4. - 7. During her stay she will open Films From the South thursday the 5th of
October in Vika Kino. She will also be participating in a seminar hosted by the
Nobel Peace Center saturday October the 7th.

Iran and waiting to see how they will respond to the threat of UN and US
sanctions if they do not stop their efforts to enrich Uranium. Dr. Ebadi is also
under enormous pressure since the Center For Defence of Human Rights was
