Tehran, 8 October 2006 (CHN) -- The first performance of Rostam and Sohrab puppet opera out of Iran's borders started its work in Duktac Dubai Theater in the United Arab Emirates on 3rd of October and will run for a week.

The Opera directed by Iranian director, Behrouz Gharibpour and the music performance of Master Tjeknavorian, goes on stage in Dubai for the benefit of Lebanese children who lost either or both parents in the recent conflict in Lebanon.

Gharibpour believes that taking this program out of Iran is an important step by the artists to take part in promotion of peace in the world and to remind the world of the fact that children are the most susceptible group who suffer the most during wars.

In order to present the best in his work, Gharibpour went to Vienna in 2000 to draw the cooperation of Marionette Group and could win their approval for the project to start with the cooperation of the Austrian agent. It took three years for the project to be completed and finally last year it started its work in Iran by touring different Iranian cities.

This program has been supported by Third Vision Institute, Mahriz Mehr Cultural Institute, and Duktac Dubai Theater and Art Center Community.

Rostam and Sohrab puppet opera is the first puppet opera in Iran in which the tragic story of Rostam and Sohrab, taken from the epic masterpiece of Shahnameh, has been displayed.

Rostam and Sohrab is a tragic story taken from the epic masterpiece of Shahnameh, or the book of kings, written by the Persian poet Ferdowsi around 1000 AD. It is the national epic of the Persian speaking world.

The legend of Rostam and Sohrab is attested only in the Shahnameh and as usual begins with a lyrical and detailed prelude. Here Ferdowsi is in the top of his poetic power and has become a true master of storytelling. The hundred of the verses of this tragedy comprise one of the most moving tales of world literature. In this tragic story, Rostam who is a legendry hero and warrior faces his son Sohrab in a battle, while both sides were unaware about the identity of the other. During the battle, Sohrab is killed by his own father, and that is when Rostam finds out the truth when he sees a bracelet on Sohrab's arm which looks familiar, but it was too late.

The puppet opera, Rostam and Sohrab, will head for Czech Republic after it closes in Dubai.
