President: Sanctions will be ineffective, Iran firm in its decision

Tehran, Oct 9, IRNA-President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad here Monday stressed that sanctions threated by European and Western states on Iran would have no impact on the country's decision to access peaceful nuclear technology.

Ahmadinejad's remarks came as he spoke to reporters who asked him to comment on possible sanctions that may be imposed by the West on Iran.

"If the enemies of the Iranian nation impose (additional) sanctions on Iran, we will also impose sanctions on them. They have carried out whatever they desired during the past 27 years (since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979). Such threats are not new," he said.

Addressing the youth of Islamic Iran, he assured them that "wherever faith, determination and resistance exists, victory will not be far behind." "This is a very simple formula as far as the country's youth is concerned," he said.

President Ahmadinejad said Iran believes in negotiations and peaceful means of resolving disputes and is committed to its international regulations even as he urged the Iranian nation to remain vigilant against conspiracies of the enemies.

"Iran's peaceful nuclear activities are conducted in full compliance with international regulations. The Iranian nation is determined to follow this path and will not heed the hue and cry (of those who oppose it)," the president said while addressing a cabinet session.

He said that certain bullying powers are determined to manipulate other states with their technical superiority and in pursuit of extremist and selfish ends.

"They oppose access by the Iranian nation to peaceful nuclear technology citing any and all pretexts. However, notwithstanding their tremendous efforts toward this end, they have failed.

"Today, they resort to threats but our people are resisting strongly and wisely with the grace of God and relying on the Supreme Leader's (Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei) guidelines and are determined to stand up to their rights," Ahmadinejad said.

He said the Iranian nation has been pursuing transparently the divine path since after the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979 notwithstanding all obstacles laid on this path by global arrogance, including economic sanctions and other forms of pressure.

"The progress and victory the nation has achieved are the results of the people's determination, unity, resistance and faith in God and these will be continued with regard to its peaceful nuclear case," he stated.
