TEHRAN, Oct. 21 (Mehr News Agency) - Iran Saturday summoned 11 weightlifters to prepare for the 15th Asian Games in the Qatari capital Doha.
Nine of the 11-strong Iran underwent doping tests by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) on Sept. 24 and reported to test positive for blood-enhancing drugs.
The world body heavily fined the Iranian federation and banned the nine lifters.
Iran's federation got fined $400,000 and the weightlifters were banned for two years each.
National lifter Mohsen Davoudi, who tested positive in the past as well as last month, was banned from international games permanently.
Tamas Ajan, the IWF president, personally invited the Iranian icon Hossein Rezazadeh to attend the 75th World Weightlifting Championships held in Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic, in late September.
The world body has also imposed a lifetime ban on Iran's Bulgarian trainer Georgi Ivanov.
If the federation refuses to pay the fine, it will be banned for two years, as well.
Under new manager Ali Pakizehjam, the following lifters start their training in the hall of the capital's Azadi Sports Complex next week.
