Iranian "Pigeon" successfully perches in Germany

TEHRAN, Oct. 30 (Mehr News Agency) – The Iranian play "Pigeon, a Sudden" has been successfully staged in Mulheim, Germany, the director said on Monday.

The cast performed on Oct. 20 at the Theater an der Ruhr, where they also attended at a question and answer session arranged by the Italian founder of the theater Roberto Ciulli, Abbas Ghaffari added.

Ghaffari believes that German audience enjoyed the performance, stage and costume design, and the atmosphere.

"Most of them noted that the drama brought to mind works of Spanish poet and dramatist Federico Garcia Lorca."

"Pigeon, a Sudden" is about a Qajar princess and her family's problems. The story highlights the gloom of the Qajar court women over their husbands' caprice.

All the cast members were women wearing the Qajar era (1781 to 1925) costumes and makeup.

Ghaffari stated that the audience completely related to the play, whose text was translated into German by Iraj Zahri a few months earlier. Furthermore, the translated text was simultaneously aired through the monitors during the performance, he added.
