TEHRAN, Oct. 31 (Mehr News Agency) - Iranian director Bahman Qobadi won the Special Mention Award for his documentary "Daf" at International Southern Documentary Film Festival and Market better known as Docusur in Spain. The event was held from Oct. 22 to 29 in Guia de Isora, Canary Islands.
"Daf" portrays the life of a Kurdish family whose survival depends upon making a musical instrument called daf out of sheep skin.
Living in a small village near Iran-Iraq border, the family sells the daf in the cities to make a living. The ceremonies for making such an instrument are very interesting and bizarre.
Faeq, along with his two wives and 11 children, lives in absolute poverty, but the family accepts trainees especially children from poor families and teach them how to play daf.
Docusur spotlights international documentary productions with a unique focus on documentaries produced or shot in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, or thematically related to southern countries.
