The city is famous for its hot springs and flowers. It is located close to the mountains so it enjoys a mountainous weather. Enjoying a high potential for attracting tourists, including warm springs in 15 kilometers distance of the city, Mahallat is one of the most popular areas in Markazi province, which attracts a large number of tourists every year.

In addition to be a major center for producing flower, the surrounded area of Mahallat is rich with different stone deposits especially marble and travertine, which are refined into tiles in nearby factories and use for buildings.

The city is one of the major producers and exporters of flowers in Iran. Flower breeding in Mahallat goes back to some 85 years ago and it is known as pioneer of flower producing industry in the country. Every year some two million vases of flowers and 20 million bunch of flowers are produced in a 900 hectare area in Mahallat and is exported both inside and outside the country. Every September the city holds a flower festival.

Altogether, Iran is one of the world's largest producers of ornamental flowers. However, due to poor marketing and lack of an outdated packaging system, the country has lost its share in international flora trade. Experts believe that enjoying a unique climatic diversity, the country has a great potential for exporting flower.
