Zanjan, Sept 8, IRNA -Iran's Deputy Minister for Water affairs Rasool Zargar said on Thursday Iran ranks third after China and Turkey in terms of having underconstruction dam projects in the world.
Speaking to journalists during the inauguration of the latest phase of "Galabar " dam building project in this northwestern province, he said 48 dams are under construction across the country while 176 other dam projects are under feasibility study.
He predicted all necessary dams would be built by the end of Iran's fourth five-year Development plan.
He said 15 dams are scheduled to become operational during the current year (started March 21), noting that five dams have been constructed since March 21.
Zargar remarked that Iran is among five important dam building countries of the world and enjoys significant engineering know-how and consulting capacity in this field.
The 82-meter high Galabar dam in Zanjan, has a capacity of 116 million cubic meters.
