TEHRAN, Sept. 10 (Mehr News Agency) - Iranian deputy culture minister for art affairs here Saturday night called for further support for puppet show.
Mohammad-Hossein Imani-Khoshkhu, who delivered speech at the closing ceremony of the 11th Tehran International Puppet Theater Festival-Mobarak at Vahadat Hall, added, "If we are going to pay heed to our cultural roots, we need to attach great importance to puppet theater."
He said support for puppet play is support for cultural roots, urging the establishment of more and more halls for puppeteers.
"There is a wealth of talent in this field of art in each province of the country and they will surely develop their skills to the full if supported."
Imani-Khoshkhu laid emphasis on the role of Majlis (Iranian parliament) in backing the art form.
Massimo Schuster, executive director of the European branch of UNIMA (Union Internationale de la Marionnette), also commented on Mobarak (the Iranian traditional puppet) during a speech at ceremony.
"I have seen various types of puppet show in other countries. However, Mobarak has its own specific features," he said.
He maintains that dolls are the messengers of peace and kindness in the world.
