Top Iranian general calls "Blow of Zolfaqar" war games unprecedented

TEHRAN, Sep. 12 (Mehr News Agency) - Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Brigadier General Abdorrahim Musavi here on Tuesday described the recently concluded "Blow of Zolfaqar" war games as the greatest and most unprecedented military exercises the Islamic Republic's Armed Forces have conducted in recent years.

"The outstanding features of the war games were speed, flexibility, accuracy, self-sufficiency, and decentralized command control," Musavi told a joint press conference.

"During the war games, which was Iran's longest military exercise, we managed to redeploy the army forces in less than 24 hours which is militarily very important," he added.

The efforts of the army's young experts resulted in significant achievements in developing arms, making the country independent of buying weaponry from the West, he noted.

"We tried to engage our forces in an organized irregular warfare to test our military experts' capabilities," he added.

Iran conducted a more than two-week-long war games in different parts of the country which started on Aug. 19.

Musavi said Iran did not seek to threaten the neighboring countries through the war games. "We were trying to tell the aggressive states to watch out not to make mistakes in their calculations."

He warned that if any country makes any mistake in relation to Iran it will have to face the Islamic Republic's might.

He stated "the Western countries should not think that Iran is like Afghanistan and Iraq with which they can do anything they want; otherwise they will inflict a loss on their countries which will be hard to compensate."

"The West should not doubt that Iran has strong forces and will defend its territorial integrity," he said.

Deputy Air Force Commander Brigadier General Qasem Mohammad-Amini told the news conference that the army's air force has achieved self-sufficiency and has educated experts to manufacture aircraft and perform experiments.

Some products of the army's air force and the Defense Ministry are Parastu (martin) aircraft, light training fighters, and Saeqeh (lightening) jet fighter, he said.

The abilities of Saeqeh jet fighter such as performing air battles, bombarding, and firing rockets had been successfully tested before the war games, he added.

Islamic Republic's ground forces Brigadier General Hossein Dadras said that Iran managed to fully illustrate its power by launching the "Blow of Zolfaqar" war games.

If the Western countries have not dared attack Iran it is because of Tehran's great power, he stated, adding, "We see the United States easily occupies Iran's neighbors in a short time, but it is not powerful and daring enough to attack the Islamic Republic."
