Quakes hit Firouzabad and Assalouyeh in southern Iran

Tehran, Sept 24, IRNA-Two earthquakes measuring 3.6 and 3.5 degrees on the Richter scale jolted the cities of Firouzabad and Assalouyeh in the southern provinces of Fars and Bushehr Sunday, respectively.

According to the seismological base of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the 3.6-degree quake was registered at 08:14 hours local time (0444 GMT).

The tremor was epicentered in an area measuring 52.8 degrees in longitude and 28.47 degrees in latitude, the report added.

Firouzabad is located 100km southwest of the provincial capital city Shiraz.

The second quake, with an intensity of 3.5, was registered at 02:20 hours local time (2250 GMT on Saturday).

The quake was epicentered in an area measuring 52.58 degrees in longitude and 27.32 degrees in latitude.

There are no reports of any casualty or damage to property caused by the quakes.

Iran is often hit by quakes of varying magnitudes as it sits on some of the world's most active seismic fault lines.
