Baghdad, April 3, IRNA - Iraqi government is intensively seeking release of five Iranian diplomats kidnapped by the US forces in northern Iraqi city of Irbil on January 11, according to an Iraqi official.
"We are intensively seeking the release of the five Iranians," the senior official said.
The Iraqi government sources say contacts are underway to secure the release of the diplomats.
Iranian diplomat seized in Baghdad released
TEHRAN, Apr.03 (ISNA)- An official of Iran's embassy in Iraq confirmed that the Iranian diplomat who was seized in Baghdad in February was released.
The second secretary of Iranian embassy in Baghdad, Jalal Sharafi who was detained for two months, was released.
"Sharafi was released yesterday evening and transferred to the Iranian border. He is in Iran at the moment," said the official.
The official further informed that the Islamic Republic of Iran was persistently following up the issue in order to release the other five seized diplomats, some three months ago.
U.S forces raided the Iranian consulate office in the city of Arbil, Iraqi Kurdistan in early January and captured five relatively Iranian officials.
Released Iranian diplomat returns to Tehran
Tehran, April 3, IRNA - Jalal Sharafi, second secretary of Iran's Embassy in Iraq, who was abducted in Baghdad on February 4, arrived in Tehran's Mehrabad International Airport after being released on Tuesday.
Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki and a number of the ministry's officials welcomed Sharafi at the airport.
