TEHRAN, April 11 (Mehr News Agency) -- Iran's Telecommunication Company (ITC) supplied subscribers with six million cellular phone SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) cards in the past Iranian year (ended March 20, 2007), an ITC official said Wednesday.
Given the figure, the country's mobile phone penetration rate reached 18, Yunes Bakhshmandi added.
He put the rate for the fixed line telephones in the country at 32, saying that the figure is higher than that of the international average.
"Upon completion of a number of underway telecommunication projects, we are planning to boost the fixed line and mobile phone penetration rates to 50 and 30, respectively," he said.
At present, 80 percent of the nation's villages with a population of over 250 people enjoys fixed line telephone communication and that all similar villages will be covered by the system by next year, he predicted.
