TEHRAN, April 18 (Mehr News Agency) -- "Tehran has a critical and fundamental role in all regional developments," Iraq's Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari said on Tuesday as he underlined the significance of Iran's participation in the international conference on Iraq.
"Iran's cooperation is very important since it plays a key role in (resolving) regional issues," Zebari told Iran's ambassador to Baghdad, Hassan Kazemi Qomi.
"Baghdad hopes to receive a positive response from Tehran to participate in the conference," the London-based Asharq al-Awsat newspaper quoted Zebari as saying.
The international security conference on Iraq will be held on May 3-4 in Egypt's Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.
The foreign ministers of Iraq's neighbors and permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Egypt and Bahrain are also expected to attend the meeting. Officials from G8 industrialized countries as well as international and regional organizations will also participate in the conference.
