TEHRAN, April 25 (Mehr News Agency) -- Expediency Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaii said in Tehran on Wednesday that Iran should participate in the Iraq security conference in a resolute way.
Of course, the Foreign Ministry must make the final decision about participation, but "in my opinion, Iran should take advantage of the opportunity and defend its position and influence in the region," Rezaii told the Mehr News Agency.
The Iraq security conference, which is to gather the country's neighbors and world powers, is scheduled to be held in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh from May 3 to 4.
Although meetings like the Sharm el-Sheikh and Riyadh conferences are biased and are intended to reduce Iran's influence on regional equations, "we should not be carried away by emotion but should resolutely take part in the conference," he stated.
