TEHRAN, Aug. 03 (ISNA)-Iran called the recent accusations made by the Israel's deputy ambassador to the UN "baseless and futile".
Iran's new ambassador to the United Nations, Mohammad Khazaei in a letter to the UN General Secretary denounced Israel's "horrific" human rights record and at the same time defended Iran's own record with regard to the issue.
The letter was drafted in response to correspondence between Israel's deputy ambassador to the UN, Daniel Carmon, and UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon, in which the Israeli deputy called on the global community to highlight and denounce what he referred to as a systematic, grave and widespread abuse of human rights in Iran.
In response, Khazaei stated that the Israeli government was attempting to draw attention away from their own "horrific" human rights record.
"Israel's futile attempt to raise allegations against others' human rights situation is nothing but a preposterous, and indeed tired, practice to distract the international community's attention from its shameful human rights record," Khazaei said in his letter.
He also condemned Tel Aviv's discriminatory approach toward Arabs residing in the occupied territories and its crimes against the Palestinians.
