TEHRAN, Aug. 27 (Mehr News Agency) -- Iran has announced that it will sign the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
President Mahmud Ahmadinejad has issued a decree for the implementation of the act passed by the parliament and approved by the Guardian Council according to which Iran will join the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography, the Office of the President's Information Council said on Monday.
The Justice Ministry will be responsible for supervising the implementation of the protocol and preparing the required reports.
To legally enforce the protocol, the parliament will draft and approve appropriate laws which will be added to the criminal code of the Islamic Republic of Iran and will increase the punishment for certain crimes against children.
