Tabriz, Dec 9, IRNA - The historical name of 'Persian Gulf' is seen in the oldest color map of Iran, which is held in the National Northwest Documents Center in Tabriz.
The embossed map dates back to 1277 (1898) and includes two names of 'Persian Gulf' and 'Bandar Bushehr Sea'.
The historical document and old map prove Iran's right on the Persian Gulf.
The accuracy of the map which is on tenth million scale, has been confirmed by the then Iranian Science Ministry.
According to the existing documents, the historical map was drawn up by Mirza Abdulrazzagh Sartip, one of elite students at Daralfonoun, and Najmodoleh, a famous figure of the time.
It contains names of the capital city, main cities, villages, rivers, valleys, major roads, railways, shipping lines...etc.
The National Northwest Documents Center was established after the victory of the Islamic Revolution of Iran where 32,000 valuable historical documents are kept.
He said that some segments of the media do not write the complete name of the Persian Gulf which should be corrected.
