Iranian official expresses regrets on the death of French citizen in Isfahan

Tehran, Dec 10, IRNA - Foreign Ministry Spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini expressed regrets over the death of French citizen Julien Van Waesberghe in Isfahan.

The 24-year-old French tourist Julien Van Waesberghe was shot dead on Sunday at Isfahan Bus Station.

The French citizen was traveling from Isfahan to Yazd with his spouse when the incident happened.

According to the Foreign Ministry Media Department report, the spokesman said on Monday evening police has identified the killer and is vigorously trying to arrest him.

The spokesman expressed hope that the killer would be arrested as soon as possible and brought to justice.

'A criminal act'

An informed source at Iran's Foreign Ministry said the killing of a French tourist in Isfahan was a criminal act.

The source told IRNA the incident has been a criminal act and police immediately started a wide operation to arrest the criminal.

The official said "The murderer is a member of a fugitive bandit who were active in Isfahan and Fars provinces and had already attacked banks, houses and even murdered citizens.

He added, "Several members of the bandit have been arrested, but one of them is still at large."

He said, "Isfahan provincial police force has already started its operation and has offered a reward for those who help police find the criminal."

On the possible motive of the murderer, the official said,"All the evidence shows that the crime must have been committed because of the mental disorder of the murderer."
