Iran waiting for U.S. to change strategies: Larijani

TEHRAN, Dec. 14 (ISNA)-The Supreme leader's representative to the supreme national security council denied claims over Iran's former governments' mistakes regarding the nuclear issue adding that Islamic Republic of Iran has always aimed at using nuclear energy in a peaceful way.

The previous government due to political correctness had accepted to suspend Uranium enrichment for some time to show its good will to the world but some western powers have violated their obligations and eliminated the trust created over Iran's nuclear issue, Ali Larijani highlighted.

The report released by 16 U.S. National Intelligence Estimates (NIE) was like a blast in the international scene but there are some pinpoints in this report since it has been mentioned in it that Iran due to international pressures has halted uranium enrichment for army purposes since 2003 but Iran's nuclear activities have always been peaceful, he said.

Calling for the U.S. to change its strategies he said the joint interests of the two countries will be preserved if the U.S. understands the mistakes it has made over Iran.

In answer to a question about Putin's last suggestion to Iran and the nonexistence of any fresh news over the talks in this regard he added that there should be an opportunity for both sides to advance this issue thorough bilateral potentiality.

Also concerning Solana's remarks who had said "I faced a deadlock after talks with Iranian authorities" he noted Solana has decided too early about this issue.

ElBaradei's report saying Iran has been reactive and not proactive on its nuclear program is due to medias' pressure he said while adding "I do not think the third resolution be imposed against Iran since this country has been cooperating with the IAEA in the last 9 months and this resolution has not been issued since mid-April."

Meanwhile Larijani touched on some neighbors' so-called concern over the distance between their capitals and Iran's nuclear bases asserting these bases are placed in Natanz and are not considered as a threat for any neighboring country of Persian Gulf, also Bushehr power plant has been erected under the IAEA's rules and this issue has been stated in talks with Arab countries.
