London, Dec 19, IRNA - The British parliament is being called upon to press the US administration to change its belligerent policy towards Iran.
A new Early Day Motion in the House of Commons "urges immediate, direct and unconditional negotiations between the US and Iran on all points of dispute."
The call, raised by backbench Labour MP Jeremy Corbyn on Tuesday, referred to the findings of the IAEA work plan with Iran in August and the UN agency's report in November "clarifying and clearing a number of major outstanding issues in relation to Iran's past nuclear activities."
It also "notes the judgement of the recent US National Intelligence Estimate that Iran does not have an active nuclear weapons program at present."
Corbyn, who is a member of the Stop the War Coalition, said he was also "strongly concerned about the continued threats of a military attack against Iran which could start another catastrophic war in the Middle East."
The British government, he demanded, should "oppose publicly any military intervention by the US and/or Israel in Iran."
His call comes after an Early Day Motion, supported by three Labour MPs last week also acknowledged the US National Intelligence Estimate's report, which gave Iran's nuclear activities a clean bill of health.
It urged the British government "to open further dialogue with Iran, and to put pressure on the US Administration to do the same." The motion called on the UK Parliament to recognise "Iran's influence in the Middle East and its importance in securing peace in the region."
