TEHRAN, Dec. 21 (Mehr News Agency) -- The 23rd Fajr International Music Festival commenced on Friday in Tehran.
Overall eighty-eight groups are participating in the national competition, international and non-competition sections of the gala.
Forty-two groups are competing in the national section, 23 from Tehran and 19 from other cities.
On the first evening of the festival, the music band "Pars" conducted by Naser Nazar performed at the Vahdat Hall, and "Payam-e Honar" conducted by Behrang Kufgar and the Bahman Orchestra conducted by Mehdi Gholami performed at the Rudaki Hall.
The bands "Ava-ye Fakhteh", "Shur", "Boomerang" and "Derakhshesh" also participated on the first night along with the Tehran Philharmonic Orchestra and a pop music band conducted by Khashayar Etemadi.
The Vahdat Hall will be hosting female music groups on the second night of the festivities and these will include "Parirokh" conducted by Pari Zanganeh and "Avaz-e Melal" conducted by Nasrin Nasehi and Shahla Milani.
"Avay-e Fakhteh" conducted by Reza Abbasi from Hamedan, "Shur" conducted by Behzad Kiyasat from Tabriz and "Pejvak" conducted by Pejman Parsmehr from Qazvin will also be giving performances on the second night at the Rudaki Hall.
"Barbad", "Payam-e Honar", "Behrad" and "Arshama" are other bands slated to participate on the second night.
This year's festival will feature groups from many countries including Austria, France, Romania, Norway, India, Turkey and the United States.
The 23rd edition of the Fajr International Music Festival will run until December 29 at a number of concert halls in Tehran.
