Iran's Ambassador says Talabani adheres to Algiers Agreement

Suleymaniye, Dec 28, IRNA - Iran's ambassador to Baghdad, after holding talks with Iraqi president here on Friday afternoon, said President Jalal Talabani underlined that Algiers Agreement was an international treaty.

Speaking to IRNA in northern Iraqi province of Suleymaniye, Hassan Kazemi Qomi said, "In today's meeting with President Talabani, different issues, including president's view on 1975 Algiers Agreement was discussed."

He added the president stressed that the agreement was valid and binding and also expressed Iraq's interest to expand ties with Iran in all fields.

Kazemi Qomi added, "We have signed more than 70 cooperation agreements with Iraq in different fields in recent years and President Talabani, in today's meeting, called for executing the agreements promptly."

The president also promised to facilitate release of all Iranians imprisoned in Iraq.

Iran's ambassador continued, "We have prepared a list of 80 Iranians imprisoned in Iraq and have asked their release." Kazemi Qomi said President Talabani repeated his invitation for President Ahmadinejad to pay an official visit to Iraq and expressed hope that it would take place soon.
