TEHRAN, Feb. 13 (Mehr News Agency) -- German theater director Roberto Ciulli plans to travel to Iran in late February to hold discussions with Iranian director Asghar Khalili about joint staging of "The Caucasian Chalk Circle".
Ciulli has seen several performances of Khalili's troupe in Germany over the past few years and is interested in collaborating with the troupe in a joint program.
Khalili's troupe will carry out the tasks of adaptation, directing, performing, and incidental music and the German troupe will handle the lighting and stage and costume designing.
It is not yet exactly clear when and where the play will be staged, but Ciulli wants the play to be ready in August.
Written by Bertolt Brecht, the most influential German dramatist and theoretician of the theater in the 20th century, "The Caucasian Chalk Circle" is about a singer-narrator who directs and comments on the poetic exploration of maternal sacrifice and justice.
During the 25th Fajr International Theater Festival in Tehran last January, Ciulli, who is also the founder of Theater-an-der Ruhr, invited three Iranian theater troupes to give performances in Germany.
The troupes are slated to perform the plays "The Symphony of Sorrow", "Icarus and Daedalus", and "The Leopard Changes Its Spots" in Germany.
Ciulli is a regular participant of the Fajr theater festival and staged "King Lear" and "Danton's Death" during this year's event.
During his sojourn to Tehran for the festival, Ciulli reached an agreement with Iranian playwright Hassan Barzegar on staging his "The Fact Is That the Sun Revolves Around Us" in Germany.
He and his wife Simone Thoma will act in the play.
