Tehran, Feb 18, IRNA - The first annual AIDS Film Festival with works of cinema, television and scripts will be held at Tehran's Niavaran Cultural Center on February 20-22.
The English-language daily 'Iran Daily' in its Sunday issue quoted secretary of the festival, Shahram Rafiefar, as saying that the aim of the festival is to help prevent the disease and support those suffering from AIDS.
"Since television is responsible for 62 percent of information disseminated among families, teenagers and youngsters, it has been chosen as the means of educating people for preventing the most deadly disease of the century," Rafiefar added.
Seeking to boost interactions among television and movie stars as well as healthcare officials, creating a healthy attitude and eliminating prejudice and discrimination toward AIDS patients, the festival has invited works in four categories, namely television, cinema, medical sciences and open forum.
The secretariat of the festival has received 30 scripts and 104 works on AIDS, out of which 88 have been chosen by the jury, the daily said adding that top films will be awarded on the final day of the festival.
