During the war games Ashura and al-Zahra battalions conducted massive operation to raise their combat readiness, Commander of Basij (volunteer) forces in Bandar Abbas Colonel Alireza Sheibani said on Tuesday.

Speaking to IRNA, he said eleven battalions are engaged in the military exercises which are to last for nine days.

The military exercises are being held simultaneously in 16 provinces -- Tehran, Khuzestan, Kermanshah, Isfahan, Fars, Kohgiloyeh and Boyer Ahmad, Gilan, Qazvin, Markazi, Kurdestan, Kerman, South Khorassan, Zanjan, Semnan, Mazandaran and Qom.

The current war games are the second launched by the IRGC within a period of one month.
