Increasing fuel consumption raises specter of power outages in Tehran

TEHRAN, Jan. 5 (Mehr News Agency) - The growing trend towards energy consumption in the nation is raising the specter of power outages, Mir-Fattah Fattah, the managing director of the Regional Power Co. of Tehran warned.

Continuation of the current trend in energy consumption will lead to the limitations on liquid fuel supplies across the nation and as a result disrupting required fuel for the power plants, a report quoted him as saying on Friday.

Due to the hike in energy consumption in the country, liquefied natural gas flow to the power plants has been cut as of Nov.22, 2006, the official said, adding that the power plants supplying the electricity required for Tehrani citizens only use liquid fuels.

He also called on people to lower energy consumption -including natural gas, liquid fuels and electricity- in the cold season to evade possible power outages.
