TERHAN, Jan. 8 (Mehr News Agency) -- The 25th Fajr International Theater Festival opens here at the City Theater Complex open air later in the day.
The Iranian Culture Minister Mohammad-Hossein Saffar-Harandi praised the event in a message to the opening gala, saying that theater plays an undeniable role in social infrastructures.
"Theater has incomparable and ample power which could be proved, understood, and surveyed in every field," reads a part of the message.
The opening gala is to feature 18 street theaters, including "The Last Way", "Passerby", "A Man Who Knew a Lot", "Once Upon a Time", and "Laughter Bomb".
Stage plays, including "Castellio against Calvin" directed by Arash Dadgar, "Death and Poet" by Kiumars Moradi, "Mysterious Melody" by Sohrab Salimi, "A Girl, a Soldier" by Ahmad Soleimani, "Rustam and Sohrab" by Rassul Ghefyan, "Presented to My Father and My Son" by Abdolreza Nasseri, "Waiting at Parker Café" co-directed by Morteza Saeidian and Hossein Zeinali are also planned to be performed on the opening day.
Foreign troupes from Germany, France, Italy, Britain, Poland, Bulgaria, Canada, Estonia, Turkey, Switzerland, Serbia & Montenegro, Finland, Lebanon, Armenia, Romania, India, and several other countries will be participating at the 10-day festival.
Four veteran Iranian actors and directors will be honored during the event.
Farshid Ebrahimian, Davud Rashidi, Tajbakhsh Fanaian, and Siavash Tahmures will receive lifetime achievement awards from the organizers.
In addition, a French group will perform the street play "Tourists" for four consecutive days as of Jan. 12.
"Tourists" will be presented by several dolls of nearly four meters high.
This edition is comprised of Festival of the Festivals, Tehran Province Plays, Regional, and Street Plays sections.
The plays will be staged at Tehran's City Theater Complex and the Art Bureau as well as Vahdat, Sangalaj, Honar, and Molavi halls.
