Tehran, Jan 22, IRNA - The first session of a special committee created to pursue construction of nuclear power plants in the country was held in Tehran on Sunday.
The session was attended by heads of Majlis' five specialized commissions -- Energy, National Security and Foreign Policy, Industries and Mines, Education and Research and Planning and Budget and Audit -- and the deputy head for international affairs of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Mohammad Saeedi, and other pertinent officials.
Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Chairman Alaeddin Boroujerdi told IRNA on Monday that the heads of the five commissions had agreed to write a letter to President Mahmoud urging him to speedily implement the government decision to construct more nuclear power plants and to conduct an international tender for foreign participation in the project, which is intended to generate 20,000 megawatts of nuclear power for the country.
A technical committee comprising Majlis representatives with expertise in the area of construction of power plants and generation of nuclear energy is to be set up to follow up the decision to build more power plants pursuant to the Majlis ratification, he added.
Asked about the Iranian project to build a 360mw power plant, he said "officials in charge of its construction have submitted a report that states the proposed design and primary works."
