Brussels, Jan 23, IRNA - EU imports from Iran in the 10-month period (January-October) in 2006 totaled 11,931 billion euros whereas its imports from Iran for the whole of 2005 totaled 11,448 billion euros.
EU exports to Iran in the 10-month period (January-October) in 2006 totaled 9,292 billion euros whereas EU exports to Iran in 2005 had a total value of 12,901 billion euros, according to figures released by EUROSTAT, the EU's statistical office.
EU is Iran's main trading partner concerning both imports and exports.
According to the European Commission, Iran ranks 24th in the EU's total trade.
EU exports to Iran are quite concentrated in three main products: machinery and transport equipment (66.6 percent), manufactured goods (10.3 percent) and chemicals and related products (9.6 percent).
Iran is an important destination market for the EU's iron and steel and power generating machinery.
More than 80 percent of EU imports from Iran are energy related (mainly oil products), representing 3.9 percent of total EU imports in energy products. Iran is the 6th biggest supplier of energy products to the EU.
Agricultural imports amount to 4.9 percent of total imports.
