TEHRAN, Jan. 24 (Mehr News Agency) -- Iran's Minister of Mines and Industries Alireza Tahmasbi maintained that the Iranian version of French budget car, Logan (L90) is a mediocre automobile.
"It is not an extraordinary phenomenon, it does not meet the required international standards, the domestic media has exaggerated its significance," the minister on Wednesday, commented on the quality of the much disputed passenger car due to be unveiled in Iran, soon.
"As I have almost once in a month said, the price of the sedan will be €6,750, now I mention the same price again," the official said when was repeatedly asked about the car's price.
Based on a controversial contract concluded between France's Renault and Iran's Pars Khodro Co. the passenger car to be also called Tondar is being manufactured in Iran. However, following lengthy discussions with the parent company, it was agreed that 60 percent of the sedan components be produced in Iran.
Iran's major auto producers Pars Khodro and Iran Khodro are planning to build 180,000 L90 autos in the next year (Iranian year begins March 21, 2007). The cars will hit the market with the 1600 cc and 2000 cc engine options.
