TEHRAN, July 1 (Mehr News Agency) -- Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art (TMCA) is to host the first biennial exhibition of Iran's costume design in late July.

The exhibit will showcase designs based on Iranian traditional costumes and national cultural concepts.

The event is being organized by the art department of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.

The aim of the exhibit is to encourage the design of costumes that are compatible with the culture of the country.

In the past Iranians have been using foreign designs as inspiration for their products.

It is hoped that such events will encourage innovation and originality in the clothing industry, a reduction of dependence on foreign designs, and the production of models suited to the climate and traditions of the country.
