Iranian women musicians honored

TEHRAN, July 6 (Mehr News Agency) -- The winners of the two-day women's music festival "The Sound of Kindness" were honored during a ceremony on July 5 at the Vahdat Hall in Tehran.

Ahu Irani (tombak), Zahra Naderi (daf), Fariba Azargun (pop solo recital), Puneh Zareii (santur) Joan Shaterian (tombak), Shabnam Hosseinzadeh (flute), Saghar Khadem (tombak) and Roshanak Khanzadi (flute) were the winners of the solo songs and recitals section.

In the group section of songs and recitals awards were given to the Saman-Buyan group directed by Elham Kazemi and the Avin group directed by Mahur Ahmadi. Nazanin Boheiraii's group was amongst the winners of the percussion section.

On the sidelines of the event, six renowned Iranian women musicians were honored in "The Voice of The Friend" ceremony including Khatereh Parvaneh (singer), Mehrbanu Tofiq (setar), Parvin Saleh (violin), Mahdokht Mokhber (song writer), Fakhri Malakpur (piano) and Azin Movahhed (flute).

During the final ceremony, the festival's jury criticized the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance for its lack of interest in the women's music festival.
