TEHRAN, July 11 (Mehr News Agency) - Inflation and gasoline consumption would rise if the energy carrier were offered in free market, said minister of petroleum here Tuesday. Seyyed Kazem Vaziri-Hamaneh added, "The rationed quota for personal cars is not to change."
The minister added, "We were to provide the people with more gasoline, but the increase in consumption after the rationing enforcement and in imported gasoline made it impossible to increase quota or to supply surplus gasoline.
"Our primary estimate was upon the average price of imported petrol in 2006 while world price contradicted our expectation, climbing to 130-140 dollars per ton.
"Our goal is to stop lavish gasoline consumption and free market is against it, causing the prices to soar."
