Quake hits Persian Gulf Island of Kish

Tehran, July 24, IRNA - A light earthquake hit the Kish Island in Persian Gulf waters, southern Iran, on Tuesday. The tremble sent panic-stricken residents of the island to streets.

It occurred at 13:40 local time (1010 GMT).

The seismological center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University confirmed the tremble saying it would later report on its intensity.

There are no reports of any casualty or damage to property caused by the quake.

Iran is often hit by quakes of varying magnitudes as it sits on some of the world's most active seismic fault lines.

Quake hits southern Iran

Tehran, July 24, IRNA - An earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale jolted the vicinity of Fin region, north of the Bandar Abbas city in Hormuzgan province, southern Iran, on Tuesday.

According to the seismological base of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the quake was registered at 13:38 hours local time (1008 GMT).

The quake was epicentered in an area measuring 56.04 degrees in longitude and 27.64 degrees in latitude, the report added.

There are no reports of any casualty or damage to property caused by the quake.
