Tehran, July 29, IRNA - One of Tehran's subway trains stopped for a few minutes along its route Sunday morning due to "technical failure," Tehran Traffic Control Center said. Eyewitnesses said it was due to outbreak of fire.
En route from Taleqani station to the 7th Tir station, downtown Tehran, the train was forced to stop for a while at 08:00 hours local time (0430GMT) when a fire broke out in its first wagon, the driver's cabin, and then spread to the next wagon which carried women passengers, a number of eyewitnesses said.
They added that none of the passengers or the driver was injured in the incident.
Meanwhile, Tehran's Traffic Control Center dismissed the fire report saying the train was "stopped at Taleqani-7th Tir passage due to some technical failures.
"The train stopped in the 7th Tir-Taleqani passage when it faced the problem and then continued its way after a short halt," the center said in a statement.
It strongly stressed that the incident had "by no means caused any delay in the movement of other subway trains in other routes in Tehran." At present, Tehran's subway trains are operating based on their regular schedules, the center said.
