Discussion by Mr.
Houman Shadab on "Finance and Freedom: Implications of the Growth of
Islamic Hedge Funds". Mr. Shadab will discuss how the growth of Islamic
hedge funds illuminates the relationship between freedom, economic growth,
international trade and peace. He is a Senior Research Fellow in the Regulatory
Studies Program at the Mercatus Center of George Mason University specializing
in financial markets regulation. Presentation will be in English, with Farsi
translation.
7:15 - 7:45 p.m.
A
participant in the Meridian International Center Rule of Law Project for
Iran, Ms. Shahin Hajian will
speak on "The Influence of Ancient Iranian Thought on Contemporary Human
Rights Law". Ms. Hajian is a leading human rights lawyer practicing in
Iran. She is a member of the Tehran
Bar's Human Right Commission and the Committee on Women and Children's Rights in
Iran, and works closely with Nobel
laureate Shirin Ebadi. Presentation will be in Farsi, with English translation.

*The IABA is honored
to host Ms. Hajian and her fellow delegates of prominent Iranian lawyers at this
event. The delegate is currently participating in a professional exchange
program on "The Rule of Law" sponsored by the Washington College of Law at The
American University and the Meridian International Center (www.meridian.org). The "Rule of Law Program"
is the first of its kind for fruitful exchange between Iranian and American
members of the legal profession concerning best practices in the field.
