TEHRAN, June 11 (Mehr News Agency) -- Iranian scientists have made the world's first drug for the treatment of cancers of the digestive system. The herbal medicine, called Spinal-Z, has been successfully tested on 700 patients.
"It has taken Iranian pharmacologists and scientists 16 years to produce this drug," said Davoud Madadi, the managing director of Iran's Social Security Organization at the Tenth International Medical, Dental, Laboratory Equipment, Pharmaceutical Products, and Healthcare Services Exhibition.
Produced by Iran's Darou Paksh Drug Company, mass-production of Spinal-Z will commence within a few months, Madadi said.
Digestive system cancers include colon, rectum, stomach, and esophagal cancers.
Killing more than 2 million people yearly, they remain the most common cancers worldwide.
