TEHRAN, June 15 (Mehr News Agency) - On Friday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini condemned the arrest of three Iranian diplomats in Iraq on Thursday as a "violation of international conventions."
Hosseini said Iraqi police arrested three diplomats of Iran's Embassy in Baghdad on their way home for a vacation; they were then detained and questioned for several hours by the U.S. forces.
The diplomats were eventually handed over to the office of Iraqi prime minister and currently they are at Iranian Embassy in Baghdad, he added.
Hosseini strongly condemned the diplomats' arrest, saying this improper behavior of the U.S. forces with Iranian diplomats was an "outright violation of international conventions and a plain intervention in the internal affairs of Iraq."
He praised the efforts of Iraqi officials for releasing the diplomats, adding the Iraqi diplomatic police had been fully informed of the diplomats' plan to visit Iran.
