TEHRAN, June 22 (Mehr News Agency) -- President Mahmud Ahmadinejad presented medals to four outstanding scholars from Iranian academies at Iran's National Library on Thursday.
Mahmud Javadipur from the Iranian Academy of Arts, Mohammad-Ali Movahhed from the Academy of Persian Language and Literature, Hassan Hekmat from the Iranian Academy of Medical Sciences, and Nasrollah Sefidbakht from the Academy of Sciences were presented with medals by the president.
Bahar Movahhed (Mohammad-Ali Movahhed's daughter) was at the ceremony to receive the medal on behalf of her father.
The Head of the Academy of Persian Language and Literature made a speech emphasizing the necessity of defining more sharply the status of these four academies in Iran and assigning polices and systems for each of them.
He noted that the reason for their establishment had been to focus on particular aspects of intellectual and scientific work, adding, "Those responsible for policy making must be highly experienced."
He then gave a brief biography of the eminent award winners before they themselves gave short speeches.
Sefidbakht, who is an expert on agricultural sciences, expressed his pleasure over the organization of the ceremony and requested that there should be a comprehensive program for the development of agricultural courses at universities.
The physician Hekmat emphasized the need to improve the academic atmosphere for young people by honoring outstanding performances made by students.
Movahhed was unwell and was unable to participate.
Javadipur expressed his thanks to the organizers of the ceremony.
