TEHRAN, June 24 (Mehr News Agency) -- "Kohl Box" by Parviz Tanavoli has been published by Bongah Publications.
This connoisseur's book on Kohl Boxes by Parviz Tanavoli, the Iranian sculptor, has been compiled in Persian and English. It describes in detail the history and use of Kohl and Kohl boxes which are a part of Iran's ancient heritage.
In this work, which incorporates illustrations of Sassanid kohl boxes, Tanavoli describes how they used to be made from glass, ivory or stone.
"I have been interested in these objects for more than 30 years. I became fond of them ever since I first purchased one and have always regarded them as sculptures. The boxes are decorated with all types of natural figures including people and animals. A kind of historical progression can be observed in their form which in many cases is geometrical," he notes in part of the book.
Tanavoli has written several other books, including "Talisman, Iran's Traditional Graphic", "The Tacheh of Chaharmahal", "Rustic and Tribal Weaves from Varamin", "The Sofreh of Kamo", "Riding in Splendor: Horse and Camel", and "Trappings from Tribal Iran".
